Security Tips
The Internet is one of the greatest and most powerful tools ever created. The majority of people using the Internet are honest hard working people, but there are also people that will take advantage of others when possible. The best way to avoid being a victim is to use good common sense when dealing with others on the Internet. If an item price is "to good to be true" or the seller needs the money "fast", this could indicate the deal needs further scrutiny.
BUYERS - Here are a few things to keep in mind when purchasing items...
- See the item in person, and bring someone with you or at least tell someone who you are meeting, where you are going and when you will return. If something doesn't feel right, listen to your gut.
- Check to see what an item is worth with a manufacturer or reseller.
- Check for wear, hours, and the condition of the item.
- Ask for documentation of ownership of the item.
- If possible, check with the company that the item was purchased from to make sure the title is clear.
- Inquire about any liens that may encumber the item.
- Check to see if item works/functions as represented.
- Ask seller if there is any warranty or if the item is sold "as-is".
- Make sure to get a bill of sale and a receipt for your payment.
- Don't pay until you can take possession of the item.
- If something doesn't feel right, step back and check things out, don't be rushed by a seller.
